September 10, 2015 - Scorpion Jet Returns to Washington, DC, in a Special Exhibit with Leading Weapons and Sensor Suppliers During AFA’s Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition

WICHITA, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Textron AirLand, LLC, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, will bring its Scorpion™ ISR/Strike tactical jet to Washington, DC on September 15 and 16 at the Air Force Association’s Air & Space Conference. The aircraft will be displayed at Signature Flight Support Terminal, at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), a short distance from the conference center. This will be Scorpion’s second fly-in to the Nation’s Capital, and caps off a four-month, multi-national tour that included rigorous demonstrations for air forces in South America and Europe.

The interactive exhibit will highlight the multi-mission flexibility of the Scorpion and feature a variety of multi-spectral sensor and high-definition video camera packages engineered for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Several wing-mounted mock munitions will be shown, representing a typical array of air-to-surface and air-to-air weapons preferred by the US and partner nations. 16 companies are expected to participate, showcasing more than 35 products capable of supporting Scorpion’s diverse mission set.

Scorpion Test Program Status Update

The Scorpion testing program has flown more than 483 hours since first flight in December 2013, with an availability rating of 98 percent. From the outset of the program, Scorpion has achieved an aggressive target of operating below $3,000 per flight hour. That target has been met consistently, with average costs coming in closer to $2,000 per hour for the majority of Scorpion’s test flights.

The aircraft on exhibit at AFA will be the original prototype introduced in 2013. Textron AirLand is currently completing the engineering for the production configuration aircraft and has begun production on some components. As the team continues to execute rapid development and best commercial practices, this aircraft is expected to achieve first flight in 2016.
